Susan is a registered nurse with experience in family practice corporate wellness along with integrated hospital settings,

she is over twenty years experience in the healthcare industry and for the past thirteen years,

she served doctors in the field like myself as a functional medicine consultant from ny to janet's on top of all that she's a michigan native and a loving mother and grandmother alright families let's jump into today's interview,

welcome to the podcast susan it's so great to have you.

[2:33] How was the morning for me i really happy you're susan i just hold our listeners a little bit about you as the professional but what can we learn more about season pass the first.

Thank you i really appreciate that hire young i say that after,

more than twenty years in this business in cash and i always say that this is,

still what wake me up in the morning i love this profession lol what we get to do i think it's such a privilege to be able to that,

lights by just giving people the information they need to make those changes so thanks again for having me so.

[3:15] Personally i am a mom of two children children children that he and i have a daughter was married and is expecting my second granddaughter any day now congratulations.

Thank you it's really exciting it's just like a club that you get to belong to that brings greater joy than anything i've ever experienced and sunday is a professional shop and he lives out in colorado.

I have lived in michigan my entire life and there's no place i'd rather be.

[3:49] Fantastic yeah great segway my next question for you was you know one thing we love to stay here on the mission family on this podcast is at.

We're smitten with the mitten so i always ask my gas what they love about michigan think,

first and foremost i love the changing of the seasons i love every single thing that we got to experience here from the beauty of the fall colors and i'm very much a water person i have a couple of.

Beaches in my neighborhood that are walkable and have lived in the water most of my life and,

find nothing more spiritual and calming to sit by the water and just listen to what they have to say fantastic yeah i can relate to there as well just growing up someone that started in swimming and just kinda,

was a swimmer from day one i really have this love for just really enjoying the water any water really is always a good thing to be around it is it's really calming and it's just,

such a beautiful place in michigan whether it's winter or summer to watch out on the ice and listen to the sounds and,

i particularly enjoy that we have the seasons because i feel like when it's,

sunny all the time you don't get time to kinda go within and be reflected and i think winters in michigan allow you to do that,

absolutely will thanks so much shoes and let's go ahead and dive into some of content that were actually here to talk about today so,

one of the reasons i wanted to bring you on the podcast as a unique guest a expert perspective was you can talk about the value and the benefits.

[5:27] For our listeners shift in terms of,

natural alternatives to female hormone imbalances and female hormones function so i'm about to go to use some numbers from twenty fourteen so arguably these numbers are already up dated.

But here's the thing susan over fifteen million women have already reached menopause and so,

what i see my office what i see with my patients are that many of my patients many of our listeners are having,

the following issues they're having sleep disturbances they're having your ability that isn't related to anything specifically their having to press of nudes or just a decrease in their over on their having anxiety,

they're having physical,

mental and emotional exhaustion one thing people tell me our joint and muscle complaints urinary tract symptoms as a liaison for marriage mx you know your that your the person that works with the doctors in the field and also with the formula is on the other side of the equation,

and drying on over your twenty years of experience as a healthcare professional how does manageress contribute to the natural alternatives for women that might find themselves with these,

what kind of experiences yeah looking for the baby boomer generation with all of the women who are reaching nana pies.

And it's called the change because we aren't they that everything changes at this point so we have several things that we can offer women to help balance and it certainly is the company one of our,

products that we have exclusive to manage an ex is called astro vera.

[7:02] An astronaut there is one ingredient siberian rhubarb root and it's just like it sounds it's the vegetable plant rhubarb and,

that's all that's in it and that,

single three and has been used in germany since nineteen ninety three and became available in the united states in two thousand nine so not very long,

again i say it's explicit manager next because maybe a lot of people have heard about it it actually will reduce collectively.

The menopausal symptoms i eighty three percent.

And most ex specially it is in the studies shown to be as effective.

At hormone replacement therapy for relieving hot flashes in studies and we have many of them.

[7:54] Reduced the number of hot flashes in four weeks,

but continues to become more active and the average reduction and hot flashes but c went from twelve a day.

Down to a day.

[8:12] It doesn't only work on hot flashes that it works and all of the menopausal symptoms so many things that you mentioned from depression and anxiety sleep disturbances aired ability muscle and joint pain,

on your track symptoms for sure and a children s although matter janet's has many other products that work.

[8:37] Concurrently with this product do a full assessment on one end and it manager next will often have the dr.

Have the haitian take what's called a stress identity questionnaire so that we can see how the adrenal may be playing a part,

in all of the menopausal symptoms so it's very much a well-rounded approach with astor very kind of being in the center,

for those symptoms that we discussed susan there's another thing i wanted to mention in regards to is really being specific with not only chiropractor adjustments but with the tools that were using in terms of.

Nutritional medicine and the approach that i taken my office is i'm never just going to blindly recommend a supplement or in our,

or vitamin or you know a specific method of delivery i'm always going to test the patient so that it specific for their neurology in their body and can i do that with,

apply can you salad your muscle testing many of my patients are listening already know this so what i'm my question for you is here.

Why specifically rhubarb there's been lots of other herbs that have been shown to possibly help with these estrogen imbalances but go ahead and speak to why specifically rhubarb well there and rhubarb has actually,

or supplement are available on the market that.

[10:03] Translate in the placebo back to include batteries so that means they actually showed an application is that with this product most of the other supplements that have been available.

Today it to treat or to help with menopausal symptoms like black cohosh and red clover and story and hops those are,

a few things that have shown minimal results and not much better than placebo in many cases and in some cases it actually,

increases the menopausal symptoms stoke s are very has really bad the first in its class to show any efficacy,

fantastic yeah so just to be clear for a listener shift would you say susan that were really talking about women who are in that perry menopausal that menopausal and that post menopausal stage of their life exactly because it.

Starts around forty five to fifty five with perry menopausal and then somewhere in that.

Area fifty to sixty most women are experiencing now cause and transmission is very individual depending on the women's genetics and the health of the rest of her body how she's going to go through,

that transition.

[11:22] Yes and that's a great point you know one thing i see a lot of in my office and you know where of course we're talking generalities hear me no two women are the same no two pregnancies are the same.

And everyone is gonna go through a little bit of an experience when it comes to this stage of life that were talking about however,

we do you want to highlight that what happens in this stage of life is that the ovaries actually start to decrease their production,

of estrogen and so when that happens,

we start to get all the symptoms that we've mentioned in so this is why one have susan on because you know as a chiropractor i'm really into natural alternatives and on non hormonal therapies i just think i've had really great success.

With a couple of my patients again everyone's different so that's why you should work with a qualified health care professional to figure out what's best for you,

but when we use this siberian rhubarb on specific people in specific dosing z at a specific level,

for a specific time we get really good results and it's really due to the,

fido estrogen and the fact so i wanted to ask you about that susan can you explain its not hormone replacement therapy it's it's the rhubarb is the specific form of rhubarb that's affecting the estrogen receptors is that right.

[12:44] That's correct and to be very clear there is no estrogen in this product off so that makes it very say,

for most women see use the only contra indication or person that may not be able to use this product of course leave it never use it and pregnancy or nursing we have no studies and that's not,

particular person that it's kind of on target for to begin with.

Women that have had it any kind of estrogen dependent cancer should not use this product and not because we think it is unsafe but because we don't have the testing,

so that being said.

Again no estrogen intact no estrogen response so because it is a plant extract it binds with certain.

Aster general reset or sites in the body but we're this particular perhaps product.

Tends to affect the sellers after sides is what is called the sturgeon bay not.

Which is opposite of what the,

hormone replacement therapy a fax though hormone replacement therapy works in water hot the estrogen alpha receptor sites and that's where you can have some of the cellular changes,

that can affect certain oncology conditions so this being that.

[14:15] Working on a masters in beta receptor sites that's where we got calmness in the mood and the other symptoms,

there with menopause.

[14:26] Absolutely i really love that specificity mention those estrogen receptors in the same way that i am just so specific with my chiropractic adjustments not just this.

Generalize mobilization it really is a targeted dial then focused.

Chiropractic adjustment profoundly impacts the central nervous system i really love the way this marriage and acts esther vera this form of rhubarb,

specifically targets that beta estrogen receptor that you were talking about and again as someone that's really into neurology and brain health,

they're estrogen receptors all over the body and so,

when you talk about the causal chain factors or just you know the other things that can be affected by a deficiency in estrogen you can really see different effects in terms of bone density.

Brain health all alot of the receptors in our brain,

actually have estrogen receptors and when those just are firing well that can cause a lot of nero cognitive neuro motion of issues and so.

Again i really do appreciate the specificity of this form of rhubarb to really target that.

Asteroids and better scepter now another question you're for issues and what if someone is what if a woman is already taking,

pastor john hormone replacement therapy is that gonna be an issue with astro vera or three point product can be used.

[15:57] In perry menopausal period before a woman feels like she needs to look at,

or a replacement therapy or to a bullied hormone replacement therapy sometime we can avoid any kind of.

Are there interaction i using after vera and making sure that diet is right the got health is very good and also the adrenal spin balance.

But sometimes a woman decides to make that choice for dr to use some of the bio identical hormone replacement therapy and this product can actually be used concurrently or take in as well,

and many other physicians,

like to use this so that they can keep the arm on replacement therapy at a low dose and news as rear offer any greek for symptoms.

[16:45] I've also seen,

doctors use that to wean women off of hormone replacement therapy so that they don't suffered a rebound effects of coming off of that and then you can use the extra vera for as long as needed.

How.

With or without so you ask a question you know that that's a major point there too and i tell people this all the time it's not that i'm anti drug that i'm anti surgery we need those.

Avenues we need that medical framework to keep us alive for emergency situations and just for those.

Those exceptions to the rule but i would say for most people even some of the patients that everything recently you now.

Sixteen twenty you know their mid twenties and their starting use hormone medications they plan being on them for the rest of their lives in so to your point there's is an to be able to use a natural.

Alternative,

to assist or even take compliments the effects of the medication i can that's wonderful and i would also highly recommend.

Just in terms of baby stepping off of a medication using a mechanism like this having this kind of alternative is just a great.

Way to go so i wanna ask you more about how can patients actually how can women actually get their hands on.

This specific form of rhubarb can you find this on amazon can you walk into a walmart and buy this off the shelf.

[18:10] Well mechanic is what we refer to as a professional line only and in order to buy time you have to get it through in life and health care provider,

and we believe that's very important because of the decisions that should be made between you and your health care provider the,

thing and energetic not a line that you can just walk into a help to store there are and that you choose to sell it on amazon,

but.

You need to be a patient of theirs and have a provider code in order to get these products in my office quality rules the day if i'm not working with.

The highest quality physical nutritional medicine dot so my patients deserve they deserve the absolute best so i wanted to kinda circle back you've mentioned in a little bit about the adrenal zero at several points in our podcast here.

[19:04] And i just wanna really such on for our listeners you know the importance of.

Really making sure the adrenal are taking care of and supported and sell in your clinical experience of over twenty years.

Do you see a lot of straight up just adrenal fatigue or do you like to look at.

What's known as the hp a access or what i like to call the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis because one of the things i'm seeing in my office is there is been a lot of people that have just had flat out adrenal fatigue.

[19:38] I'm getting a lot of good results lately just by helping people's brains i wanna ask you about that question if i may i'd like to go back just a little,

and the professional line question that you asked and one thing that i always like to point out because,

no matter how long i do that i am always to me how people and the general public do not understand that the supplement industry is,

on regulated and so,

they don't understand that when you are buying an over the counter supplement there's literally no governing board and is overseeing what is in supplement the fda does have it all,

for looking at.

[20:26] Nutritional supplements but by and large there's no standardized industry for it and so one of the recent articles published in jama,

actually talked about fifty five different bottles of vitamin d that were pulled from twelve different manufacturers and those fifty five bottles,

the label content,

i love that i am not in other words how much of that vitamin d was in that bottle actually contained in those capsules or tablets range,

from nine percent to one hundred and forty six percent of what was legal claim.

[21:06] I always like to use the example of vitamin d because it so important in the by an expression with women's health and most specifically prenatal i'll.

[21:17] There is higher increased risk of miscarriage when vitamin d levels are inadequate or under in the body.

[21:26] And if you are sending your patients and their obtaining a bottle of vitamin d that is literally nine percent of what's on that label claim.

[21:34] It just really makes me sad when people don't understand how important it is to know what you're buying,

no that's clean and no that that africa c is in nepal to what's not label you bring up such a good point there susan and i'm really glad that you actually circle back and address that because.

[21:55] Honestly it's it's a major do you know to be able to tell someone that.

Hey you know this rodeo that were gonna give you to help your you know hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis like this is the highest quality rodeo in the world you know you cute you can't find this on amazon are walking to engine zero walmart now just using rodeo as an example or even rhubarb for that matter,

so i'm really glad you make that point.

And even back to what you were saying about vitamin d you know it really is the narrow hormone you know so much more than just a vitamin so much more than just you know it really is is near a hormone and i think it really ties into,

our discussion on estrogen here in terms of the.

[22:36] Osteoporosis affects you know you do you need to pray calcium you do need vitamin d and you do need healthy levels of estrogen to have good bone density especially in this stage of life that were talking about would you agree.

[22:50] I was completely agree and i just really like to bring up because they feel like the general public is just not aware that what they may be dying in half dead and not only that,

sometimes coming under problem bro of the life we need to make sure that we're taking is not contaminated with heavy metals and where.

Lol nice and kind of thing that can be heard the a nutritional supplement especially in the,

verbal formulas that can come from china or,

india and those are always the most ridiculous manufacture sleeping at your really important,

course in medicine its first do no harm that you need to be aware of what you're giving for striving and as a consumer what you're taking.

So absolutely and just just around out my thought in terms of other clinical applications in this whole.

Brain adrenal menopause thing that we're talking about here one thing i'm noticing in my office and my practice is all do the adjustments support the journals with nutrition specifically electric langella or maybe a whole food or vitamin approach,

and for some people for some cases you know that just really isn't helping them hold their adjustments or calm down or get any kind of release of symptoms,

and one of my interests is people are always telling me that they can't sleep weather constantly waking up at night.

And i'm finding that when you address the brains and when you talk about the hypothalamus and pituitary those are actually hormonal glands that are inside our brain.

[24:29] And when you support specifically those frameworks those functions and the and a consistent not only with chiropractic adjustments but was also nutritional medicine,

what i'm finding at lisa's that i get significant results rather than just supporting the adrenal on our just wondering if you'd seen anything like that season.

[24:49] No grass and i think that part of what is going on is that we just really have adapted our bodies energy not.

Come up with what had happened in let's look at the last one hundred years what are grandparents,

were like with their lights were light and i think as women in this menopausal stage of life,

traditionally that was the time that we were slowing down we have to raise our families we were you know the life expectancy certainly wasn't what it is today and,

when,

we are in the stage of life is so different because we're still working and sometimes where we're at our high is it in our professional career many times we're also,

taking care of elderly parents are we could be possibly taking and helping,

to take care of our children and grandchildren we are having children later in life so we are doing more than we ever have at the at this point in our lives.

And as you mentioned earlier when the ovaries start,

producing last estrogen and are kind of calming down or slowing down it to regionals are what have to take over for that.

Whole process that the ovaries used to do so if we have impaired adrenal function to begin with.

[26:19] It can't really take that increased burden so those adrenal have to be optimized at all costs,

when the adrenal are impaired the one of the first places that shows up is an.

Increased education and increased ability to stay asleep so many women can't fall asleep.

But what happens is they wake up usually between three and five am and it takes about an hour and a half.

To complete the cycle of where the adrenal are kinda off at that point and they will tell you i can fall asleep just about that time,

the alarm is ready to los.

What and then repeat the cycle over and over and that's because the circadian rhythm or than normal body clock is kinda off and that's where we have to look at.

[27:17] Resetting that.

And so it kind of works off of symptoms and how are you sleeping how do you wake up in the morning how do you feel are you put fresh or do you have what we call on reflect,

refresh sleep severity of supplements along with her hectic adjustments along with a full body approach spiritually.

Calling whatever it is that you need it you that we look at for resetting that circadian rhythm so that we can restore.

Normal sleep patterns and i think that is a big part of the.

Helping to control the symptoms of menopause and specifically hot flashes.

[28:00] Absolutely susan you know i can hear the conviction that passion in your voice and our listeners should can to.

You're giving me a little bit of a chill over here is issues so exciting so you know be able to bring this empowering information to our listeners ship and to the people that we love and serve and care so much about,

one of the things i might ask,

patients do specifically when are trying to get the thirty thousand foot view of any kind of female hormone symphony or any kind of hormonal imbalance.

Is keeping a weekly hot flash diarrhea just to help them tracks things tractor symptoms you know maybe before they start treatment and then maybe after they start using the,

rhubarb that were talking about with esther vera are there any other practical resources are things that,

you could equip our listeners with in terms of practical applications to help them elevate their personal wellness or their family wellness in this regard.

[28:56] I think i have a question can,

survey is really a great idea that has a slightly up and the allow it when hot flashes improve or the and the group they forgot how bad they were feeling and killing the back at that frequent,

so that is something i always recommend a while.

[29:17] I think that you should track your sleep and in my patients when i first are,

are working with someone i like to see a food journal because i have a red pencil and i'm like oh you should be that's not the case i really like to see,

where are the snapshot is because i believe that things should always start with food and if there are changes that we can make,

to put the patient and a healthier trajectory i think that's such a good place to start.

[29:51] Fantastic susan you know i just love bringing like minded people and passionate people here on the podcast i wanna thank you again for joining me today on this episode of michigan family wellness,

[3:03] Welcome to the podcast bridget it's so great to have you back for helping for me,
sir bridge i just sold our listeners ship a little bit about you as the professional but one of the core values here on the mission family on this podcast is family can you tell us more about you as the person and perhaps what does family look like for you.

[3:24] Sure so i have a small immediate family i have just once and then i think sometimes when your family of three people think,
what's something with you may not of family but i really think it's important new unis small family that we really interact as a family we eat together we exercise together you know we go on trips together and,
say i it's definitely important for me to a new,
kind of shape our son's values even tell me what i am and then i'm you know i'm in my early forties and my parents are getting older and a kind of each that.
Tweets in my life where next day my relationship with my parents is evolving and it's and it's very sweet.
And name in the pacific northwest and we have some extended family and in other town so you know we do some weekend trips to visit and.
Definitely a point my life where it's very important to me,
awesome i just love to have our listeners should can it connect with different people's family dynamics and what it looks like for each of them mention the pacific northwest i would love to get out there at some point,
in the same line of you know geographically speaking another thing i love to stay here on the mission family on this podcast is that were smitten with the mitten.

[4:44] So i always ask my guests to share anything they love about michigan and no have you ever visited the state or have any places favorite places that we might want to share with us yeah you know i got.
Maybe i'm i'm cool i was close but they'll call you my little background i was raised army brat my dad is from chicago and his family has had like,
beach house in michigan city indiana for,
no decade so i have a lot of fond memories of being on lake michigan,
as a child just at the beach playing in stuff to me like some of my fondest childhood memories awesome yeah lake michigan again one of my favorite places we were just out there for the fourth of july holiday with my wife's family what we do is that to rent a lake house and just you know enjoy the fireworks there is not much that be,
it's lake michigan in terms of quality lakes you know in the state so i'm with you there well,
awesome well thanks bridge it's been a pleasure getting to know you more but let's shift gears and talk a little bit about.
Everything you're doing with functional medicine and kind of the practitioner education that you're doing so just to be clear for our listeners let's establish a framework here so that the parents and families listening.
Can't get real value of what we're talking about here,
so typically speaking let's say you're having some kind of health issue or just go with the fatigue model and you may go to your medical doctor and they may decide to run some blood work or some lab test.

[6:21] And so typically there is now a complete blood count which would be defined as like medically necessary so there's there's gonna take some blood they're gonna test it there to see if anything's comes back abnormal.
Alright so now let's say that those lab tests those lab results come back but everything is within that normal range okay.
And your md says hey congratulations your lab tests are normal but here's the thing you're still feeling exhausted or you're still feeling you have tons of,
rain foggy or,
or momma this regulation okay now depending on the doctor at this point you'll either at your either get a general prescription for a medication with no real clinical reasoning or you'll be told that your fatigue or whatever your issue is you know might be on your head and your crazy no just you know,
push you out the door and tell you there's nothing they can do i can tell you how many times i've heard this story for my patients and from people in my community,
so enter the functional medicine model so as a functional medicine practitioner.

[7:25] These are people who are looking at more comprehensive lab testing okay so.
Not just nero parameters of values in the blood but they're also looking at all those upstream and down stream values.
And again everyone's different there are no two bodies that are exactly the same so what's what's defined as normal.
You know for one person may be completely abnormal for the other person so functional medicine doctor of functional medicine practitioners gonna take that into account.
When they're looking at these lab test,
results and here's another thing brigitte which i'm sure you can get into with your practitioner education doesn't matter if it's blood saliva hair stool you know that functional medicine doctor is looking at,
tons of different things to really get the best benefits and value and really time travel that patients elevator health and wellness.
The fast so i know i've said a lot here really quick.
But i do wanna give everyone just a simple analogy and i kinda wanna use analogy of a river so let's say that a river is a home and freely,
flowing smooth at river and in this metaphor that represents good health,
or optimal health okay so let's say that over time the flow of that river,
it decreases the rate of loss does not flying as fast or it's not flying as smoothly some of the plants that grow around in that area and the fish that like to hangout growing feet in that area you know they're having a harder time.

[9:02] So in this analogy the functional medicine doctor would be looking at okay hate not only what's going on right in that area of that river,
but also asking the question you know what's change what happened you know bob stream what happened down stream you know what's going on what what's the,
big picture was that thirty thousand foot view where as again in this model just being very general here the typical the classical,
medical approach my beats on me look at our right what's going on right in the section of the river.
So does that kinda make sense to you bridge of the second resonate with the community that you're an shit area in and be happy to kinda dig deeper and why why some labs,
appear to be normal wear and tear may not think may not be your yeah option that people can explore if they feel like,
yeah we have gone to a practitioner ans.
Just not you know not found the results or answers they one and yeah no no preached to where can discussing how this relates to you know women's hormone health can you speak more about that for a listener should i think there's a couple things,
come on my nigga blamed for everything in a general way like oh it's my mama zero it's stress and you know,
those things might be in the right direction but you kinda have to break it down a little more than that.
So your friend since it's not normal to have pm master to have really heavy periods are irregular periods and sometimes people will just tell us just my hormones.

[10:39] Which that's not how nature intended to be and we have to take a,
better looking like wood is this regulating our hormones and you give an example of it either earlier which is really common complaint as well and my that can be elusive is,
now say you're going to the doctor in a blood test like you said it could be you know so many things playing in it could be,
you your blood sugar regulation and you may not be diabetic dad but it could be often that gives you a highs and lows those highs and lows can stress your hormones are female hormones your hormone production,
because this is a concept when it i got it for the first time was a real label like its stress for your body to,
give me all are to know each giant ice cream sundae and then you know get a stomach-ache so.
Yeah there's there's a lot of you know ways to look or places to look for how are female hormones get this regulated,
or how we get anti fatigue and yes some of it is stress but we can also break that down you know it's environmental strasse.
Is that you know kind of self-inflicted because they're not,
getting to bed at a reasonable hour in other relationships jobs we may need to get out of there stress from our diets you know for eating foods that your retainer god.

[12:05] So there's yeah there's no there's lots of sources and six we we always we talk a lot about hormones in my platform but we also do a lot of digging like.

[12:17] It's under neath like that and wider you of of what is chasing what is hormone imbalance,
absolutely ragin many of my patients and many of our listeners here you know they're having those sleep disturbances they're having your ability depressive moods anxiety physical mental and emotional exhaustion joint and muscle complaints and all these things can really be tied to that,
and the cream dysfunction that hormonal dysfunction specifically like you mention the stress response and.

[12:48] That's one of the things that i really help many people but women especially with at the office with that chiropractic adjustment tuning that central nervous system.
Two down regulate those stress hormones those inflammatory cytokines they're just prolonging that inflammatory response now as it relates to hormones do you prefer or do you advocate within your educational per,
practitioner communities.

[13:14] More blood testing to check for hormones or saliva testing or a combination of the two you know let's say someone's resonating with your message here and should they be trying to find someone that's gonna tester saliva or test or your and or test or blood speak a little bit about that,
yeah i'm in the first line test i learn was blood test and i'm glad i i didn't learn it first,
but necessarily say it's the best hormone tasks,
how do you think i call just would say you could tester like a three estrogen and and,
fsh and lh anything,
test the wind gesture on some doctors are gynecologist or functional medicine practitioners can test that and you get a clear snapshot on those days so it for some my fertility clients you know that information that you will let us are also.
You know little easier to get access to may be ready had some times run and there are covered by insurance and a functional medicine practitioner,
this training can take a look at that else can give you some background like we talked about earlier you know what's behind the hormone problems because of the blood tests we cannot see you know your,
blood sugar is looking will i have it looks like you may be having trouble digesting proteins so there's really cool information also nowadays app and test vitamin d which is technically a hormone and and that can affect a lot of things so yeah i would say.

[14:44] What has to me is more like good background information my favorite hormone test the urine test call the dutchess test,
can't yeah it's pretty easy to take up on this like litmus paper for five times a day and.
Can the it will tell you basically what's coming out your urine you know with hormones are you breaking down or what you know.
What's coming out of the trash says he is can tell us about your hormone levels and also how your informants down in because they take the test for five times a day.
Like the saliva test is well known for gino cycles you can also get a sense of your adrenal cycles of like i don't know i think ninety five percent accurate as the saliva test.

[15:33] To get a sense of your cortisol rhythm which is often,
quite often in modern day with electricity in santa plate in strasse and all that so yeah we we really wanna get back into that natural rhythm.
I have energy through the day so this touched past and i think the website is that's test stock we can find out some more info i think it is a really great resource for women because it is,
like i said it the adrenal test female hormones like estrogen progesterone also testosterone managing me a sense of how well you're breaking things down,
i'm so gives you a sense of your detox ability thank you so much for the bridge and there's just so much value packed into that,
everything you just said you know you mention vitamin d and now my brains going down the vitamin d route do you see a lot of estrogen dominance because one of the things i'm noticing in my practices i'm working with women that have either taken or all contraception or,
or eggs are gianni's estrogen for many years and now they want to start having a family and they wanna start to become pregnant becoming fertile and that's just not an option for them right now cuz they're just not cycling normally,
so that's one example the other example is in and working with women that are currently taking the pill or any kind of oral contraception and,
that's putting those synthetic hormones you know into the body and it's really confusing the.
What i like to call the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal or the hp a access so.

[17:05] I wanted to ask what your thoughts were on that and if you've seen that clinically me more often see women coming on birth control and having questions heater for fertility or just the other cycle back.

[17:18] Is frank with people still are on birth control for just thirty crew then i just third leg,
yeah i'm on my birth control or being and everything is going well with them when they come up is usually here from them because.
Yeah people are figuring that their period will come back into the doesn't come back for year yeah i really should you know really works but kinda shutting down communication between the brain and ovaries.
And sometimes i get shut down for what twenty thirty years when women are on birth control sometimes and that can be hard to,
does not back in the place so i do see estrogen dominance for sure coming many people are.
Doing what feeling in of being overweight and when you're fat tissue makes more estrogen,
there's lots of chemical estrogen sources in plastics and beauty products and women are very lt of using a lot of synthetic.

[18:15] Beauty products any unwittingly that have fragrances and parents that are having.

[18:22] At like synthetic estrogen so that's a big problem also yelling meets growth hormone and things like that.
The birth control like humans and other medications is well there's there's a lot of places to be,
exposed estrogen flipside is that the hormone imbalances estrogen and progesterone and making me rob's when we're under stress rate so,
i often see from my client population and maybe years as well doctor i was like,
people are usually coming to me with with already some knowledge in rd trying so you know they may be on like,
really that overweight and there you know there trying to eat well.
Nothing yet it had some background of using birth control pills or you know maybe have some food issues are struggling land and.

[19:18] Very dapper of low overall hormones and low progesterone from the stress piece,
so the estrogen appears to be dominant dom and but it's.
It's not it's understandable feature ache there's a lot of other factors playing in c have low estrogen,
amber just round and so is your in the documents this is what i see a lot i can say enough how,
just that simple stress response and i ask my patients all the time you know are you able to digest your food well you know without any loading or abdominal discomfort after they eat are you able to sleep well you know the functions of the paris and,
pathetic nervous system you know what we influence when we do a chiropractic adjustment.

[20:03] And honestly you know all of that is hormone we regulated we talk about blood sugar making sure that you have stable levels of blood sugar you mention food.
I can't say enough how the use of,
pastor gene in our industrial food complex that most of the beef here in the in the united states i believe they actually inject,
astrid jenn because estrogen makes cells grow up and they want to get larger cow they will actually inject the cows with estrogen so that's why i'm sure you recommend this year clients as well.

[20:34] Find the cleanest the most organic the gmo free food as possible because.
You just don't know what's and everything else and it could be contributing to your hormonal this function.
Or whether that manifests itself is fatigued or.
I have a cycle or an irregular cycle or that your ability that anxiety whatever it might be there are so many environmental things that we can do to just eliminate that exposure would you agree yeah i absolutely agree and there's,
there's plenty of information out there i'm happy to share some resources later cuz alex is on his are just not fully aware like maybe we wanna have more grass fed beef we can you know i'm not sure where to buy it or,
we don't know how to make it affordable or maybe we think are,
shampoo in my size there are okay but we don't really know for sure if they're cleaning their yeah there's a lot you can reduce and i think it,
i want hands it sounds hard but i think once you wear and all these habits and the knowledge i think it's pretty,
pretty manageable to keep the amount of.

[21:47] If somebody asks you play out of your body i mean you mention just a little bit of your personal story i don't know how long we want to get with a listener shipped here but in your introduction you know recovering from post,
pardon depression and all the hormonal changes that occur before during and after delivery yeah i mean frankly i do a lot things are back in and,
the good part is that a lunch means my own recovery and launch me into this.
On line business handicap he really passionate about helping women you know when i became pregnant i had.
Let's see i had been married three months i have had a knee clinic for only six months and for some reason decided to get pregnant if you guys worried about getting older and i got everything that have a lot of strasse,
my ability to handle stress wasn't as developed a that is needed to be i didn't eat as well as i need to be as i need to see.
I worked hard in during my pregnancy so i definitely set myself up for some problems and was.
Is really notches during my pregnancy which now i know i have a lot to do with b six deficiency but i didn't know that the and then after i had my son.

[23:05] Yeah you nicest everything sis i was low i was in focused and you know to some extent anything okay let's be new mom but,
i just i i was in a place like darker than i ever had them in something so i can something so i was really happy and sometimes i was really lost in.
Need to start looking for other tools so,
yes some of it came to me and learning more about my nutrition and healing my god my balance of my hormones that some play styles you like,
learning you know how to prioritize things in my life and i'm learning to cook better than.

[23:45] In just kinda like wearing in this have its and and making decisions on what,
what scares me and and one thousands of selling your kind of already answering my next question here which is really those practical applications as you look back on your own experiences would there be.
One or two or possibly your top three things that could direct people to hey,
you there you know limit your exposure of these things are really try to have a mindset of this wall of being cleaned for me you know that i should of,
then looking into that and i am looking into now it's just minimizing,
i really minimizing what i need to do you and your life whether it's like you know i'm,
i'm jp nagar of business i like yourself but it's like you don't need to chase like ten marketing ideas like pick one so that's the business example you know i'm personal life you know i am,
we live here your listeners are moms with kids and,
you know they don't need to be in ten activity i mean maybe just wanted to because the more yeah more activities the more your eating out all the money on the runway feel stressed so just gonna simplifying.
And is in one more example of an owl and is just simplifying like what you take and like i take in,
very little news here i barely know what's going on or off and i don't think i'm missing much you know i just it just says is more information to process of your life rd feels overwhelming.

[25:28] And now you're so you know worried about you know all the violence in our culture or whatever its like it just as adding another thing to worry about.

[25:38] You're absolutely right there bridge and i'm glad that you mention that because the stress always doesn't have to be no external it can be that starts in our brains that start in our minds not mention.
Not taking and you know a ton of news or whatever on a nightly basis or no constantly.
I mean just that alone you know you can fire that stress response and you know of course record is all again and then you can just throw your.

[26:02] Whole system back into a hormone on this regulation after you've done all that work you know throughout the whole day to keep it balance.
That's a great point i'm glad you mentioned that in terms of other resources to equip our listeners ship weather be books podcasts and things that have helped you things that you've read watched,
anything that you would recommend for our families to elevate their family wellness yeah i probably have a handful of things and stop me if it's too many i mentioned a little bit about beauty products,
being a big source of estrogen especially the way you put on your skin and that's really meant to resort and here stand so one resource for that is.
I the environmental working group has a database called skin deep database.
I'm not sure the url but basically bad and you can look up any product you have in all rated.

[26:54] Her safety and i'm sure they've got some resources are you coming to about five,
i need some ingredients that in one avoid one big one to avoid it's really easy to us to find this is fragrant soap fragrance ls that says fragrance from essential oil of,
organic orange lexus is bad it's synthetic and its an anaconda structure so just china just reduce the amount of fragrance in your life,
if it's you know your,
using like scented trash bags are scented kitty litter or no perfumes or scented been asking lotion,
you have nice that's your hoe reservation for be from a natural source so that's one easy one to look for and that's one resource and then as far as food.

[27:46] In i think most important is just,
i'm a big advocate of like learning to cook and and shopping in summer and now is a great time to like your local farmers market join and agriculture share you don't have to,
you mean i can i get overnight stay,
you know as this gourmet chef cooking with natural foods but you start to learn more and more you know cook at home with your family that's when that thing about having a family is in hopefully you are home or in cooking more and.
The meeting,
you know real foods from scratch is a great place to start yeah little bit more advanced moves is no no i haven't he getting twenty different sources of fiber from plants and vegetables so,
in plants and fruits and we.

[28:37] So bad fiber diversity is good for your that so if your eating eating well it's a no expand your diversity of the amount of plants you need to know by things that are in usually it never popped before you can shop in the,
again international food store in chinese saying so,
that's that's one idea a couple resources i'd love for you to check out my podcast is a women's wellness radio we talk about our home in,
that has been not as much about family is your show but i'm about injured,
introducing first foods are picky eaters and then i guess alas i mention this because i'm really into it right now is a friend of mine who is in our dvd,
to share does a program called body thrive and it's ten habits to thrive ny ten basically free things are close to free that you can introduce like,
i'm eating an earlier later dinner learning to snack on and having like a morning routine gets you energized and,
i love it i love it simple in the accessible you can my like the ten dollar book on kindle that and check that out.
Awesome thank you so much for jane i just love all of the.
Lifestyle and nutrition in the diet thing that you're recommending and i tell people this i tell my patients all the time you know there's so much you can do in that you need to do.

[30:07] On your and it's not.
It's not like a ninety ten percent you know there's so many different treatments and natural and holistic things that you can go do massage therapy acupuncture chiropractic functional medicine all that is fantastic and.
Very powerful signals for healing that if you walk out the doctors door if you walk out the clinic door and.
You go back to mcdonald's and you go back to your couch to lifestyle.

Good day michigan families and welcome to another empowering episode of michigan family wellness in your host dr kyle and today we have a special episode where i will be talking about the adverse health affects,

body dysmorphic and the disconnect between what we see in terms of body types in the mainstream media.

And what people really look like that before we jump into today's content i want to let everyone know that there will be exclusive pdf article.

At michigan family while the stock come that talks about the benefits and value of the paleo cleanse plus fourteen day detox program.

[2:42] My wife and i have personally done this detoxification protocol.

And while i'm not just going to randomly blindly prescribe this to me in all my patients.

[2:53] Does present a scientific approach to phase one and phase two liver detox and helping our lives and blood circulatory systems.

The drain those toxins that accumulate over time which can lead to excess weight gain.

And stubborn weight loss again don't just do any random plans for bone broth for detox program that you hear about on social media facebook you to the internet.

You can send your body into a healing crisis if you do things at the wrong time at the wrong level on sequence and basically go to hard to fast it's like doing a new exercise program.

You're not gonna try and run twenty six point two miles if he can even run,

one or two miles so you gonna hurt yourself long-term if you try some nice things and then six,

for a while you don't have that guidance the coaching that's necessary to get the results that the alright let's jump into today's episode,

in an age where there is a growing disconnect between the shapes and sizes of the majority of everyday people in real life and those of men and women whose physics are advertised as some sort of ideal.

I'm television online and in print media the issue of body dysmorphic is becoming more and more common it's a rare individual who doesn't have something about their body they wish were different but body dysmorphic is more than that,

it involves chronic unrelenting self ridicule.

That may take over someone's thoughts to the extent that interferes with work socialization.

[4:28] And mental and physical health body dysmorphic more formally called body dysmorphic disorder.

Is more than fretting over some post pregnancy stretch marks a few gray hairs or a couple of pounds of cracked up around the mid section over the years.

[4:45] Body dysmorphic disorder is characterized by a self perception that is detached from reality.

Individuals may imagine flaws that are non existent or they may view very mild and extremely common faults in their parents.

[5:01] Things other people don't even notice as so disfiguring an ass statically on pleasing that they take over the person starts and interfere with everyday life.

Put simply.

Individuals with body dysmorphic disorder see things that aren't there they become obsessed with perceived shortcomings about their physical body,

either completely imagining things or taking things that are there blemishes perhaps or scars cellulite or excess body fat.

And blowing them out of all rational proportion,

the tv may become so severe that the mayo clinic classifies it as quote.

[5:44] A type of chronic mental illness in the dvd is recognized as a unique diagnose a condition in the dsm for.

[5:54] Negative thoughts about ones appearance can become so pervasive and all encompassing that they actually lead to more severe conditions such as anxiety.

Eating disorders substance abuse and unnecessary and dangerous cosmetic procedures,

according to the inside in depression association of america dvd most often develops and adolescents and teens and research shows that it affects men and women almost equally,

about one percent of the us population has be dd it may be surprising that the self critical thoughts affect men and women nearly equally.

It could be that the air of self he's and near fetish icing of tan,

chiseled male forms rattling with muscles has begun to affect voices and mens is psyches the way decades of magazine covers featuring airbrushed and added photos of perfectly proportioned female models.

Have loved some women to believe that their self worth is determined solely by the size of their waist,

it's an breasts the process cause or triggers for bd dr unknown but the main clue negative life experiences that lead to a lasting imprint such as childhood teasing a baseline of low self-esteem,

pressure to conform to societal standards of attractiveness and having other,

psychiatric disorders such as anxiety or depression psychiatric co morbidity is our common and it may not be possible to tease out which are the causes and which are the effects.

[7:25] For example social anxiety disorder and the dr calm and cool morbidity so it seems logical that the could cause social anxiety disorder,

but one study suggests that bd is a subset of.

Social anxiety disorder in a very small study at a veterans affairs primary care behavioral health clinic bd was found to be associated with a substantially elevated rate of suicide attempts major depression.

And obsessive compulsive disorder.

This trend also applies be on veterans to the general population where there is a noted high rate of co morbidity between the dvd.

Depression and suicide obsessive compulsive disorder is a common commodity with pd but the two conditions have significant distinctions and,

an individual may experience remission in one but not the other chiropractors and other health care professionals are in a unique position to help identify this problem in their patients,

obviously most family doctors these days encounter patients to do you have genuine physical signs of metabolic disturbance such as abdominal,

obesity skin tags a can of those is not grounds and more but they may also come across men and women who exhibits some of the signs and symptoms of be,

add and these practitioners may be the only people in the patient's lives who recognize the issue and are willing to broach the subject,

it's difficult to specify the signs to look for one red flag maybe a patient who is at a healthy weight.

[8:58] Or possibly even under weight yet is seeking advice for a cheating an even lower body weight other things for practitioners to look out for include signs and symptoms of over exercising particularly when combined with under eating.

Such as fatigue adrenal this regulation any me,

and frequent illness or injury among women specifically if patients present with the female athlete triad health care professionals may wish to investigate further to see if something psychological is at work.

Beyond physically over taxing the body and for those of you who aren't familiar with the female triad this is a sin drum which you,

often see in female athletes so there's three parts one and eating disorder so low energy availability in combination with a mentor is a las of the cycle and then also osteoporosis or decrease and that bone mineral,

density as for treatment strategies cognitive behavior therapy may be helpful,

and sarah turning re taking having medication may also alleviate symptoms in the short term but obviously you do wanna consider,

natural conservative chiropractic adjustments in combination with nutritional medicine as an alternative to pharmaceutical medications,

additionally consider evaluating these patients for micro nutrient deficiencies vitamin and mineral deficiencies are recognized as exacerbated and other conditions involving on stable moods anxiety depression.

Poor stress tolerance and a negative outlook some of the nutrients that may be of benefit include vitamin b twelve b six full eight.

[10:33] Omega three fats zinc and magnesium in the practical applications component of today's podcast i want to equip our listeners ship with six keys to healthy weight loss you know weight loss is such a big do these days it's such a fad.

Things go in and out of style we have the rush of new years resolutions with people to the gems along the new year,

but i really want to avail people to the knowledge that.

[11:03] This has to become part of your lifestyle losing weight and keeping it off long term has to assimilate.

As to part of your regular routine so here six keys to healthy weight loss number one detox first many of the toxins in our bodies are stored in body fat,

research shows that when we lose fat these toxins are released back into circulation and may cause negative symptoms health problems and,

may make it more difficult to lose weight there for a natural clans are detoxification program is essential for healthy weight loss so again,

don't just do any random detox work with a dr like myself who knows what they're doing who can test and evaluate and assess your need for your level of detox when done properly most people will experience increased energy levels,

reduce cravings for sweets and other junk foods and an overall feeling of enhanced wellness.

Number two eliminate problem foods certain foods cause hormonal imbalances that drive over heating food cravings and inflammation,

making it almost impossible to loos fat.

Eliminating these foods can make all the difference in your ability to successfully lose fat and keep it off refined carbohydrates and sugar are some of the biggest problem foods while gluten and dairy are also major offenders.

If you eliminate these foods during the detox phase it is best to continue to keep them out of your diet.

You'll feel better you'll have more energy and you'll lose fat more easily number three never miss breakfast.

[12:36] Research shows that eating processed foods or processed or sugary foods for breakfast like muffins bagels pancakes or even most breakfast cereals.

Where can i meet you to over eat later on in the day.

This me also wreak havoc on your blood sugar and sap your energy levels causing you to crave sweets and making it almost impossible to stay on a weight loss program,

thus it is vital to eat a quality breakfast every day and make sure it is high in protein and low in refined carbohydrates,

also be sure to avoid processed foods and cereals number for it real food three to five times daily.

Process to zach like sugar in the body often providing access calories that are quickly absorbs and more likely to be stored as fat.

So eat minimally processed real food and follow these guidelines have small frequent meals the stabilize your blood sugar and really help out the adrenal glands.

[13:31] Consume protein with each meal.

[13:34] Quality carbohydrates complex carbohydrates brown rice for example not necessarily low carbohydrate foods consume quality oils not low fat case of these good oils are like your coconut oil you are,

organic olive oil my wife and i love to use avocado oil for our salad dressings and are cooking try a full paleo style diet consisting mainly of fish.

Grass-fed pasture raised meats eggs vegetables fruit from guy roots and not,

what's this diet excludes the most common problem foods such as grains legumes dairy products potatoes refined salt refined sugar and processed oils and if you have any questions about your food sensitivities this is something we can address.

As a patient at the michigan family wellness clinic we can you lots of muscle testing and laboratory testing to figure out exactly what food sensitivities you have and what foods you need to avoid number five use natural products to support,

quality nutrition intake.

Here's the thing guys we can't get all the nutrients that our body needs from our food even if we eat organic non gmo our soil is so deficient in minerals quality case and number five year,

protein shakes are a great way to easily get quality nutrition quickly without a lot of calories have a protein shake to fill in at breakfast.

When are you don't have time to eat right or after exercise to support muscle building and maintenance other supplements can help kickstart your metabolism and helps you burn fat when it comes to protein shakes you really wanna use the highest quality most of.

[15:08] Bio available protein on the market because.

So many of these protein powders these protein shakes have other ingredients which can rack your metabolism and really have an adverse affect on your health so i asked myself message me send me an email let me know if you have questions about this because i can equip you with even more information about the highest,

quality most bio available protein on the market.

To not only increase your results from your exercise but also increase your immune system,

number six exercise to boost your metabolism physical activity is essential if you want to lose weight and keep it off i have patients ask me this all the time there is no magic supplement there is no one can see out there if,

i can help your body sleep well get a good night's rest or even take a nap during the day okay so that's number one sleep and number two if you can have.

[16:01] Good movement patterns if you can move your body and exercise those two things alone if that's all you do.

[16:08] That can have such a profound and significant effect.

On your body your brain your health and your well this for the rest of your life and extending into future generations.

So again physical activity is essential it increases muscle metabolism helps your body burn more calories even when you sleep exercise also helps eliminate toxins which can cause you to become,

resistant to fat loss and physical activity makes you look better and feel better too especially in our contacts today talking about body dysmorphic,

disorder walking help strengthen and tone the major muscle groups resistance exercise increases muscle and muscle burns calories so adding some resistance training to your program is recommended interval training is often considered to be the most affect,

exercise for overall health fitness and fat loss.

[16:57] I wanted to bring this condition to light on this episode of michigan family wellness because so much of what i do as a chiropractor positively affects people with bd d.
